Sara Taylor who was White House Political Director from 2005-2007 finally appeared before the senate today after much hullaboo about invoking executive privilege… claiming she “took an oath to the president.” This statement is somewhat emblematic of the complete failure of anyone in this administration’s inner circle to comprehend their responsibility to the American people.
Watch Senator Leahy remind her about that little oath she took…
Seriously after some of her testimony Ms. Taylor could have simply pled retarded instead of the fifth. And in some cases that’s pretty much what she did…
maybe karl rove just wanted something pretty to look at?
BIGGEST STORY OF THE DAY (well actually yesterday) and it's not that big because no one besides the writers over at the Chicago Sun times seems to be talking about it.
Long story short: Hastert buys big plot of land with friend, Hastert earmarks money for highway to pass nearby land, land value skyrockets at the news of new highway, hastert sells for $2 million profit over a couple years. Suprisingly complex for someone of Hastert's intellect (no offense to other former wrestling coaches out there)…
He could be severely fucked on this one. Read the story here.
Think Progress has some good stuff on this story too. Check it out
This whole thing is becoming a bad joke. the repubs really don’t give a shit about anyone as long as they get some money in their pockets…
Also, Commies at Whole Foods ban the sale of live lobsters…
As a number of you all know, i had the pleasure of working at whole foods during high school and the unfortunate experience of working there after college (between campaigns). They are a bunch of fake hippies that somehow get named “one of the best companies to work for” even though i sat there for four months without health insurance. And that was as some sort of middle manager (running the beer dept.) wasn’t like i was an entry level stock clerk. Anyway, the company is a total sham. They put this out there because the figured it’d produce a ton of free publicity which it has… and they weren’t making any fucking money of lobsters to begin with. Read the story here about how the dirty hippies want to cuddle with our tasty crustacean friends. Maybe they should focus on paying the mexicans they hide in the back a decent wage… Speaking of which, the people in the back have no idea of the difference between organic and non-organic. So, while the labels out on the floor might tell you one thing, it really is just a guess…
so the past couple posts have been deleted thanks to wordpress and their amazingly poor html integration. fun times.
First off: Bob Kimmitt – international man of mystery – is being sent to fix Iraq's economy and build up international support for them. Read the post article here.

I personally think it's a cover…here's my conspiracy theory from an email to a friend the other day.
He might be talking to people about Iraq but trying to gauge opinion about an attack on Iran then alerting state, cia, bush, et al. what the countries reaction would be. He’s not only making a stop in every country involved in Iraq but every large country with a stake in Iran (not positive on Russia, but pretty sure.) If it was solely on Iraq he’d want to do france-germany-japan, they own most of the Iraqi debt, and getting rid of that is the assumed first step to bringing their economy back (besides turning on the wells). He’s a high level diplomat with military experience but has the cover of an economist… if they were trying to secretly work the international scene on Iran he’d be a top-choice to do so.
Not to mention he also was the first big name to "call out Europe" on Iran in his Washington Post editorial a couple years ago. Here's a snippit…
Iran: Time for Europe to Lead [FINAL Edition] The Washington Post – Washington, D.C. Author: Robert M. Kimmitt Date: Sep 4, 2003 Start Page: A.21 Section: EDITORIAL Document Types: Commentary Text Word Count: 833 While there is debate between Europe and the United States about the nature of Iran's leadership and its brutal repression of its own people, there is no debate about the fact that Iran is embarked on a path toward obtaining nuclear weapons. In contrast to its efforts in Iraq, the U.N.'s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been widely viewed as effective in detailing Iranian efforts to develop a nuclear capability. Just recently IAEA inspectors reported finding evidence of highly enriched uranium at a nuclear facility south of Tehran. This finding prompted Iran's foreign minister to declare that Iran was prepared to "enter negotiations on the additional protocol," which would permit broader IAEA access to Iranian facilities, though it would also buy time for Iran to accelerate its clandestine program. To the surprise of many of its detractors in the United States, Europe's policy of "critical dialogue" with Iran has recently become more keenly focused on the dangers posed by Iran's nuclear activities and aspirations. This sharpening of approach has been hastened by Europe's growing concern about the parallel acceleration of Iran's missile development program.
Led by Germany, and on its own initiative rather than in response to U.S. pressure, Europe should publicly announce a policy under which it will not allow its companies to trade with a nuclear Iran, will not provide other than humanitarian financial support to a nuclear Iran and, in the World Bank and other international financial institutions, will vote against all but basic-needs projects for a nuclear Iran.
Ann Coulter Continues to Shit from the Mouth suggests Congressman Murtha Should be "fragged"
Hoyer has a pretty horrendous staff (in terms of # of complete assholes), I guess being biz dem he is a good balance to Pelosi, who being a San Fran dem, has this crazy notion of children deserving health care, fair wages, and allowing women the right to have control of their bodies…
I’d love to have seen Harold Ford stay in the house and run for this position. George Miller would be great too… although unfortunately the image of two cali-progressives might not be the best for the party. Obey is another one… but i don’t see why he’d give up the power of approps chair to become leader. DeLauro is also awesome but this is America and having two women lead the party might be a couple years ahead of most people’s thinking. Also a ‘good american guy’ from a republican leaning seat might not be a bad idea…. someone like Chet Edwards or Gene Taylor but unfortunately their hands are tied due to district level politics.
If there's no ban, that means it's legal right??? something about equal protection?
anyway, Sam Brownback can rot in hell. oh and for George Allen… how the hell do you think getting in someones elses business is more of threat to marriage than your own divorce?

P { MARGIN: 12px 0px 0px }WASHINGTON (AP) – A constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage was defeated as predicted in the Senate Wednesday, but supporters say new votes for the measure represent progress that gives the GOP's base reason to vote on Election Day.
"People are going to be responsible for this vote," said Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan. "We are making progress in America on defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman."
AmericaBlog is organizing a call in to protest the senate taking up marriage as a constitutional amendment… Check out their page here and make sure to aske Rick Santorum if he's ever gotten a blowjob.
AmericaBlog is organizing a call in against the marriage amendment bill. pretty hilarious stuff… check out this one call.
AMERICAblog reader Bill writes in about his phone call to Senator Crapo's office (R-ID) this afternoon:
Is Senator Crapo in favor of traditional marriage?
Yes he is, he's a cosponsor of the bill.
He is? Can you tell me if he masturbates?
I could not tell you that.
Can you tell me, do you masturbate?
I cannot tell you that either.
Can you tell me, does he commit sodomy, analingus, cunnilingus or fellatio?
What is the purpose of this questioning?
It's regarding his views on traditional marriage.
Okay, he supports the bill.
Yes, but could you tell me does he commit sodomy?
I could not give you an answer on that.
Is he willing to pledge that he has not or will not commit sodomy?
I could not answer that.
Has he ever had sex before or outside of marriage?
Again, sir, what is the point of this questioning?
It's regarding traditional marriage and how far his support goes.
Any one of those questions I could not answer.
Have you ever had sex outside of marriage?
Again, I will not answer that.
It's nobody's business, right?
That's right.
Okay, thank you.

Some Highlights…
But if you do the math, there are 100 Most Influential People in the World. There are 6.5 billion people in the world. That means that today I am here representing 65 million people. That’s as big as some countries. What country has about 65 million people? Iran? Iran has 65 million people. So, for all intents and purposes, I’m here representing Iran today. Don’t shoot.
………………
And when you enter the workforce, you will find competition from those crossing our all-too-poorest borders. Now I know you’re all going to say, “Stephen, Stephen, immigrants built America.” Yes, but here’s the thing—it’s built now. I think it was finished in the mid-70s sometime. At this point it’s a touch-up and repair job. But thankfully Congress is acting and soon English will be the official language of America. Because if we surrender the national anthem to Spansih, the next thing you know, they’ll be translating the Bible. God wrote it in English for a reason! So it could be taught in our public schools.

Funny Shit…. If we could only get Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson to 'prove their faith' in the same manner. KIEV (Reuters) – A man shouting that God would keep him safe was mauled to death by a lioness in Kiev zoo after he crept into the animal's enclosure, a zoo official said on Monday."The man shouted 'God will save me, if he exists', lowered himself by a rope into the enclosure, took his shoes off and went up to the lions," the official said."A lioness went straight for him, knocked him down and severed his carotid artery."
The incident, Sunday evening when the zoo was packed with visitors, was the first of its kind at the attraction. Lions and tigers are kept in an "animal island" protected by thick concrete blocks.

On May 12, 2005, over dinner with business partner and FBI informant Lori Mody, Rep. William J. Jefferson (D-La.) furtively scrawled the letter "c" on a sheet of paper, and next to it wrote some numbers indicating that he was demanding a much larger personal stake in an African business deal than previously agreed to.
When is Jefferson going to get a fucking clue? caught redhanded he still denies everything? the marion barry defense of blaming everyone for setting him up but not taking responsibility for the fact there's an endless amount of evidence of his bribes. not too mention a video tape.
although, my dad pointed out one interesting difference… Jeffereson trying to setting friends/family up with 'good deals' is an abuse of his office. What Cunningham did was an abuse of Congress… Jefferson is a total dipshit, and will hopefully go away to jail for a long time, but he wasn't giving out federal contracts in return for bribes…
Regardless, JEFFERSON SHOULD STEP DOWN IMMEDIATELY. he is an embarrassment to Congress, Democrats, the Congressional Black Caucus, and himself.
sorry i'm a little late putting this out… good news though.

President Bush Announces Major Combat Operations in Iraq Have Ended
Remarks by the President from the USS Abraham Lincoln
At Sea Off the Coast of San Diego, California
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you all very much. Admiral Kelly, Captain Card, officers and sailors of the USS Abraham Lincoln, my fellow Americans: Major combat operations in Iraq have ended. In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed. (Applause.) And now our coalition is engaged in securing and reconstructing that country…..
ok… i guess it's not that funny, especially in light of the pictures of those kids dying (see below) but anyway. have a good weekend.
One of the few political things i agree with Mr. Kimmitt on. I think Bush was lucky to have someone like Paulson agree to come on board, but they need to consider kimmitt for a secretary of something. At the very least he brings dignity and honesty to an administration that lacks both.

BERLIN (Reuters) – China should speed up adjustment of its yuan exchange rate policy to reflect market conditions, U.S. Treasury Deputy Secretary Robert Kimmitt said on Thursday.
China's central bank on Wednesday reaffirmed its commitment to deepen foreign exchange reform to make the yuan more flexible while keeping the currency on an even keel.
"We'd like to see that … the Chinese move their currency more quickly to reflect the underlying market conditions," Kimmitt told reporters during a visit to the German capital. (read full article here)
Rawstory got it's hands on the these from Agence France Presse… here's a clip of their story on it… also excerpted from reuters. BE PREPARED FOR THE WORST… THESE PICS SHOW ALL BEST THIS WAR HAS TO OFFER. At least there won't be any orphans… apparently we kill children too.
According to Reuters report on the incident, the 11 bodies of men, women and children, including a 75-year old grandmother and a child under the age one one, were found bound in their blown-up home. All were shot in the head; the house was riddled with bullets. At the time, "The U.S. military said two women and a child died during the bid to seize an al Qaeda militant from a house."
"A senior Iraqi police officer said autopsies on the bodies, which included five children, showed each had been shot in the head. Community leaders said they were outraged at the killings and demanded an explanation from the U.S. military," Reuters reported. "Television footage showed the bodies in the Tikrit morgue — five children, two men and four women. Their wounds were not clear though one infant had a gaping head wound."
Wrote Floyd, "We know from photographic evidence that the corpses of two men, four shrouded figure s (women, according to the villagers), and five children – all of them apparently under the age of five, one as young as seven months – were pulled from the rubble of the house and laid out for burial beneath the bright, blank desert sky. We know that an Associated Press reporter on the scene saw the ruined house, and a photographer for Agence France Presse took the pictures of the bodies."

If you aren't sick of the war after looking at these you aren't human. What In Hell are we doing over there? Our soldiers didn't ask for this, the iraqis didn't ask for this, ExxonMobil and Haliburton did though, lucky for us those are the voices that count. damn those pics are messed up.
DETROIT – A federal judge will go ahead with hearings in a legal challenge to a warrantless domestic surveillance program run by the National Security Agency.
U.S. District Judge Anna Diggs Taylor also criticized the Justice Department for failing to respond to the legal challenge, The Detroit News reported Friday.
The NSA and the Justice Department declined immediate comment. The Bush administration has said that hearings would reveal state secrets that affect national security.
The American Civil Liberties Union in Detroit and the Center for Constitutional Rights in New York filed lawsuits against the program in January, saying it violates Americans' rights to free speech and to privacy.
In March, the plaintiffs asked the judge to declare the National Security Agency's program illegal. They said the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act requires that the spy agency go to a secret court in order to spy within the United States.
The government filed a motion saying that no court can consider the issues because of a privilege against revealing state secrets, if doing so harms national security. The judge said she will hear the government's motion only after proceeding with a June 12 hearing on the plaintiffs' motion to summarily declare the spying illegal.
"Although defendants have not responded to said motion they may, if they appear, argue against it," she said.

The Department of Homeland Security has ranked the District in a low-risk category of terrorist attack or catastrophe, putting it in the bottom 25 percent of U.S. states and territories, as part of a decision that will cost the city millions in anti-terror funds, according to city and federal officials.
The news came as irate officials from New York and Washington demanded explanations for why the department slashed funds in a separate urban anti-terrorism program by 40 percent for the metropolitan areas hit hardest by the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
cute chart
Rhode Island: $4.5 million
Wyoming: $4.4 million
South Dakota: $4.4 million
Puerto Rico: $4.3 million
THE DISTRICT: $4.3 million homeland security grant

pretty funny stuff here. Someone on her staff must have a sense of humor cause she definitely doesn't…. In response to DHS saying NYC has no landmarks Hillary and Pete King have started a campaign to send Chertoff postcards of NYC landmarks… what a bunch of idiots at DHS.

NY Republicans get riled up…
some quotes from Peter King (R-NY)
"As far as I'm concerned, the Department of Homeland Security and the administration have declared war on New York,"
"They have cut $80 million in funding to New York City," King said. "Meanwhile, they gave a $21 million limousine contract to the company that was driving pimps and prostitutes around."
"It's a knife in the back to New York and I'm going to do everything I can to make them very sorry they made this decision."
thought you all might enjoy this… pretty interesting numbers. especially that clinton was named the worst by only 29% of evangelicals. (i guess that in the midst of their own sex & drug scandals they've come to terms with oral sex)
article from Rawstory
President George W. Bush has been named the worst president in the last 61 years by American voters — with nearly twice the negative rating of Richard Nixon — in a new poll by Quinnipiac University.
Bush is named by 34 percent of voters, followed by Richard Nixon at 17 percent and Bill Clinton at 16 percent, according to a Quinnipiac University national poll released today. Leading the list for best President since 1945 is Ronald Reagan with 28 percent, and Clinton with 25 percent.
President Bush is ranked worst by 56 percent of Democrats, 35 percent of independent voters and 7 percent of Republicans, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds. Best ranking for Reagan comes from 56 percent of Republicans, 7 percent of Democrats and 25 percent of independent voters. Among American voters 18 – 29 years old, Clinton leads the "best" list with 40 percent.
Among young voters, 42 percent list Bush as worst. Clinton tops the "worst" list among white Protestants – 24 percent, and white evangelical Christians – 29 percent.
American voters disapprove 58 – 35 percent of the job Bush is doing, compared to 58 – 36 percent in a March 2 survey. Even voters in red states, where Bush's margin was more than 5 percent in 2004, disapprove 52 – 39 percent.
"Democrats just plain don't like President Bush. His father, the 41st President, was voted out of the White House after one term. Nixon quit under fire. But most Democrats think Bush 43 wins the worst-president race," said Maurice Carroll, Director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.
"Kennedy and Truman get big Democratic votes, especially among Baby Boomers (45 – 64 years old) and seniors (over 65), but recent memory counts," Carroll said. "Democrats say Clinton's the best and Republicans say he's the worst. Republicans don't think much of Jimmy Carter either. There's no contest for the GOP favorite: It's the Gipper."
"Bush's job-approval numbers remain in the cellar. But he might finally have hit bottom."
The main reasons cited by American voters who approve of Bush are that he is a strong leader who does what he thinks is right – 18 percent; and that he is doing a good job handling terrorism – 15 percent.
The main reason cited by voters who disapprove of Bush is the war in Iraq, listed by 43 percent.
A total of 38 percent of voters are "very satisfied" or "somewhat satisfied" with the way things are going in the nation today, while 62 percent are "somewhat dissatisfied" or "very dissatisfied," matching the previous satisfaction low point from March 2.
In an open-ended question, where respondents can give any answer, 16 percent of voters say the war in Iraq is the most important problem facing the U.S. today, down from 23 percent in March. Another 12 percent list economic issues and 11 percent list immigration, the first time this issued has hit double digits in a national poll.
American voters say 56 – 39 percent that going to war in Iraq was the wrong thing to do.
The U.S. should remove all troops from Iraq, 29 percent of voters say, with 28 percent who want the U.S. to decrease the number of troops; 26 percent who want to maintain current troop levels and 11 percent who want to increase troop levels.
From May 23 – 30, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,534 registered voters nationwide. The survey has a margin of error of +/- 2.5 percentage points.
