BIGGEST STORY OF THE DAY (well actually yesterday)  and it's not that big because no one besides the writers over at the Chicago Sun times seems to be talking about it.

Long story short: Hastert buys big plot of land with friend, Hastert earmarks money for highway to pass nearby land, land value skyrockets at the news of new highway, hastert sells for $2 million profit over a couple years.  Suprisingly complex for someone of Hastert's intellect (no offense to other former wrestling coaches out there)…

As a number of you all know, i had the pleasure of working at whole foods during high school and the unfortunate experience of working there after college (between campaigns).  They are a bunch of fake hippies that somehow get named “one of the best companies to work for” even though i sat there for four months without health insurance. And that was as some sort of middle manager (running the beer dept.) wasn’t like i was an entry level stock clerk. Anyway, the company is a total sham. They put this out there because the figured it’d produce a ton of free publicity which it has… and they weren’t making any fucking money of lobsters to begin with.  Read the story here about how the dirty hippies want to cuddle with our tasty crustacean friends.  Maybe they should focus on paying the mexicans they hide in the back a decent wage… Speaking of which, the people in the back have no idea of the difference between organic and non-organic. I personally think it's a cover…here's my conspiracy theory from an email to a friend the other day. 

He might be talking to people about Iraq but trying to gauge opinion about an attack on Iran then alerting state, cia, bush, et al. what the countries reaction would be.  He’s not only making a stop in every country involved in Iraq but every large country with a stake in Iran (not positive on Russia, but pretty sure.) If it was solely on Iraq he’d want to do france-germany-japan, they own most of the Iraqi debt, and getting rid of that is the assumed first step to bringing their economy back (besides turning on the wells).  He’s a high level diplomat with military experience but has the cover of an economist… if they were trying to secretly work the international scene on Iran he’d be a top-choice to do so.

Not to mention he also was the first big name to "call out Europe" on Iran in his Washington Post editorial a couple years ago. Here's a snippit…

Just recently IAEA inspectors reported finding evidence of highly enriched uranium at a nuclear facility south of Tehran. This finding prompted Iran's foreign minister to declare that Iran was prepared to "enter negotiations on the additional protocol," which would permit broader IAEA access to Iranian facilities, though it would also buy time for Iran to accelerate its clandestine program. To the surprise of many of its detractors in the United States, Europe's policy of "critical dialogue" with Iran has recently become more keenly focused on the dangers posed by Iran's nuclear activities and aspirations. This sharpening of approach has been hastened by Europe's growing concern about the parallel acceleration of Iran's missile development program. Led by Germany, and on its own initiative rather than in response to U.S. pressure, Europe should publicly announce a policy under which it will not allow its companies to trade with a nuclear Iran, will not provide other than humanitarian financial support to a nuclear Iran and, in the World Bank and other international financial institutions, will vote against all but basic-needs projects for a nuclear Iran.

I’d love to have seen Harold Ford stay in the house and run for this position. George Miller would be great too… although unfortunately the image of two cali-progressives might not be the best for the party. Obey is another one… but i don’t see why he’d give up the power of approps chair to become leader. DeLauro is also awesome but this is America and having two women lead the party might be a couple years ahead of most people’s thinking. Also a ‘good american guy’ from a republican leaning seat might not be a bad idea…. someone like Chet Edwards or Gene Taylor but unfortunately their hands are tied due to district level politics.
